 Studies show that a decrease in air pollution leads to an increase in the number of extreme climatic events. That may sound unusual, but a recent study published in the journal Science Advances concludes that decreasing air pollution in Europe and North America led to a 33 percent rise in the occurrence of hurricanes in the North Atlantic basin over the last 40 years.
The Study Explains how the absence of particulate matter, which determines the number of pollutants present in the air, leaves the oceans exposed to direct heat from the sun, which in turn creates favorable conditions for the formation of hurricanes.
The study also attributes a 14 percent decrease in the number of cyclones over the northwest Pacific Ocean to rising air pollution in Asia. My research finds that a 40-year reduction in air pollution, or say also, significantly contributed to an increase in the number of hurricanes in the country's north and south.
So definitely, this reduction in Air Pollution from the United States and Europe hugely helped human health, but my research showed that sometimes good things have unintended consequences. The research has opened a new dimension in climate studies on pollution's unintended impact.
Further research along these lines may force governments to rethink their move against pollution and take wider aspects into consideration before sketching out future policies.
